THE BASIC MESSAGE

First Language is described as a coded sharing of mechanical vibrations and electromagnetic radiations—sound and light. VIZR VISIONS are the neurological expressions of electromagnetic radiation experienced as “light.” They are SIGNALS managed by “ORGANIC CODES” embedded in the organism, conveying life-enhancing MEANINGS at a pre-intellectual level of awareness. VIZR VISIONS are presented as native to deep internal consciousness and intrinsic to our NEURO REALITY.

INTRODUCTION

The Neuro VIZR offers neuroplastic sensory-guided experiences integrating light and sound. These experiences are composed as sensory themes intended to support positive functions and have been described as brain exercises and enrichment disguised as entertainment.

Although both light and sound are integrated, the light experiences are often considered particularly alluring. This article focuses on these light experiences through the perspective of Neuro Reality (NR).

WHAT IS NEURO REALITY (NR)?

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have expanded exploration of consciousness and perception through sensory-based cognitive experiences. The author proposes Neuro Reality as another related category.

NR is based on experiences that emerge when consciousness and the senses are turned inward. Unlike conventional external Common Reality (CR), which combines sensory impressions, symbolic representations, and cognitive interpretations within Time and Space, NR explores a different mode of experience.

With consciousness and the senses turned inward, NR presents an experience described as existing before symbolic representation and cognitive interpretation. It is characterized as a direct, consciousness-based, non-symbolic language that communicates information without layers of symbol or interpretation—using energy itself as its alphabet, word, and voice.

NEURO REALITY & BIOSEMIOTICS

The article frames Neuro Reality partly through Biosemiotics, a field concerned with signs and codes within living systems.

WHAT IS BIOSEMIOTICS?

Biosemiotics approaches life as “semiosis,” founded on SIGNS & CODES. It argues that genetic coding in DNA is not the only form of coding involved in life, but one of a series of organic codes that have shaped life on Earth.

The basic position is that life is based not only on “copying,” associated with Natural Selection, but also on “coding,” which biosemiotics terms Natural Conventions.

CHARACTERISTICS OF VIZR VISIONS

VIZR Visions are generated using the portable Neuro VIZR device placed on the head. With the eyes completely closed, sequences and moving patterns of flickering white light produce visual experiences within the “mind’s eye.”

They are generally described as combinations of pure, “other-worldly” colors, complex geometric patterns and shapes, moving vistas, and inter-dimensional landscapes. Depending on the phase of expression, the experience can range from profound simplicity to ineffable complexity.

VIZR VISIONS AS NEURO REALITY (NR)

The article emphasizes that VIZR Visions are not considered unique to the Neuro VIZR device. Rather, they are presented as an intrinsic component of Neuro Reality and as part of a broader means of communication shared by living organisms.

Humans have experienced internally generated visual phenomena under many conditions, including:

  1. Long periods of darkness — associated with phosphenes and internal visual light experiences.
  2. Sustained physical stress and labor — such as long migrations, hunting expeditions, or vision quests.
  3. Physical injury, pathology, and disease — including migraines and seizures.
  4. Drumming, dancing, and singing — potentially inducing altered states conducive to internal visual experiences.
  5. Hunger and starvation — capable of producing hallucinations and internal light visualization.
  6. Hallucinogens — plant- and animal-based substances associated with strong psychedelic visual experiences and shamanistic practices.
  7. Spiritual practices — including yogic breathing, meditation, contemplation, dark retreats, and movement practices.

These experiences have been interpreted in very different ways, from divine or transcendent phenomena to meaningless neurological byproducts.

VIZR VISIONS – WHAT ARE THEY?

Visual Neuro Reality experiences have long been part of human experience and have received many interpretations. Ancient cultures recognized them, while modern science has investigated them through neurological and physiological methods. Interpretations range from viewing them as divine or transcendent experiences to considering them meaningless neurological byproducts.

COLORS AND PATTERNS – AN OVERVIEW OF CONCEPTS AND FINDINGS

The article describes two fields whose discoveries increasingly overlapped over roughly 150 years: the bioelectromagnetic characteristics of the Central Nervous System and the ability to influence the CNS through external signal stimulation.

The general term for the light, colors, and patterns experienced in Neuro Reality is “phosphenes.” Related terms include entoptic/entopic, referring to phenomena arising within the eye or visual system, and eidetic or photographic hallucinations.

Drawing on James L. Kent, the article describes phosphenes as often appearing in predictable geometric forms, including webs, grids, checkerboards, clover-leaves, honeycombs, spirals, funnels, blobs, and stars. These patterns may resemble recurring forms in nature and are associated with relationships between retinal structures and visual-cortical organization.

According to the source, flicker frequency can influence the character of these patterns:

Frequency Typical Pattern
1–4 Hz More amorphous forms
4–9 Hz Web, spiral, or cloverleaf patterns
9–16+ Hz Grid, honeycomb, or checkerboard patterns

The article also notes that magnetic and electrical stimulation can produce similar “mind’s eye” experiences without direct light stimulation.

Eidetic or photographic imagery is described as occurring during Non-Ordinary Conscious States and being influenced by cultural and personal conditioning. The source compares this process to seeing recognizable forms in clouds: once imagery emerges from the “noise,” interpretation quickly follows.

THE HISTORY OF PHOSPHENE RESEARCH

The article traces modern phosphene research to Johannes Purkinje, who published a detailed account in 1819. It also discusses Jacques Moreau’s experiments with hashish, Heinrich Klüver’s mescaline investigations, and Otfrid Foerster’s observation that electrical stimulation of the occipital lobe could produce sensations of light.

Max Knoll and colleagues at the Technische Hochschule in Munich conducted extensive research into electrically induced phosphenes beginning in 1956. According to the article, Knoll found that pulses within a range overlapping brainwave frequencies were effective in producing phosphenes. Testing more than 1,000 people, the researchers observed flickering light and, in some participants, geometric figures. Changing the stimulation frequency changed the patterns, with individual phosphene spectra showing repeatability.

Gerald Oster’s 1970 Scientific American article is presented as another major summary of the subject. Mechanical pressure on the eyeball, electrical stimulation, and other forms of stimulation are described as ways of producing phosphene phenomena.

SOME HISTORY TO PUT THINGS INTO CONTEXT

The article notes that humans have been fascinated by flickering light for centuries. Apuleius and Ptolemy investigated flickering-light phenomena in antiquity, while later researchers such as Purkinje, Brewster, and Helmholtz explored patterns produced by interrupted or flickering light.

The development of neuroscience further connected these visual experiences with the electrical nature of nervous activity. Hans Berger recorded human brainwaves and identified alpha and later beta activity. Edgar Adrian confirmed Berger’s findings, while William Grey Walter investigated theta activity and visual evoked potentials produced by rhythmic stimulation.

Walter observed that rhythmic stimulation could produce changes in the visual field and, at certain frequencies, could spread through the brain and encourage synchronous oscillation.

His work later inspired William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, and Ian Sommerville to create the Dream Machine in 1959, designed to provoke hypnagogic experiences through rhythmic flickering light with the eyes closed.

THE NEXT STEP AND BRAIN ENTRAINMENT

The article introduces the frequency following response, describing the general tendency of the brain to follow a sustained periodic signal in its electrical activity. The familiar example is tapping one’s foot to rhythmic music. This phenomenon became popularly known as brain entrainment.

Shamanic and First Nation drumming are presented as examples of rhythmic stimulation that may settle into the “twilight consciousness” range associated with theta frequencies.

However, the article cautions against oversimplifying brain entrainment. The idea that the entire brain simply rests at one single frequency is described as naïve. Brainwave distributions vary throughout the brain, activity changes rapidly with internal and external stimulation, and individuals differ considerably.

“These various bands do not necessarily appear one at a time.”

The source cites Thomas Budzynski to emphasize that different frequency bands commonly occur together. Alpha may mix with theta and beta, while a primarily theta pattern may still contain alpha or beta activity.

Sustained rhythmic stimulation from light, sound, electrical, magnetic, or kinetic sources can also produce negative experiences in a small minority of people, particularly those with sensitivity to such stimulation.

Two Approaches to Brain Entrainment

  1. Basic Brain Entrainment — uses predetermined signals intended to create a generalized frequency following response.
  2. Neurofeedback — uses real-time measurements of brainwave activity to help a person actively generate particular brainwave patterns. The field remains theoretically developing and is increasingly challenged by the complexity of neuroplasticity, brain networks, and connectomes.

The article also criticizes the proliferation of inexpensive digital brain-entrainment products making exaggerated or dubious claims, while noting the substantial earlier history of academic and medical research into light, sound, biofeedback, and entrainment.

WHEN THE BRAIN GETS DESTABILIZED

When the brain is pushed outside its normal range of ordered or stable network relationships, it can become temporarily “destabilized.” The resulting subjective experience may become an “uncommon” perspective, also referred to as Non-Ordinary Consciousness (NOC).

The article gives several examples:

  1. Questions and Zen Koans can temporarily interrupt ordinary consciousness and open new perspectives.
  2. Déjà vu can involve a brief, unusual form of disorientation.
  3. Awakening from deep sleep or anesthesia can temporarily produce strong disorientation.
  4. Concussion can produce disorientation and possible amnesia.
  5. Sensory stimulation through light, sound, touch, and smell can produce uncommon states.
  6. Highly rhythmic stimulation may generate frequency following and a restricted trance-like state.
  7. Highly randomized stimulation lacks predictable periodicity and may produce experiences strongly influenced by set, setting, expectations, and psycho-emotional disposition.
  8. Hallucinogenic drugs can produce brain destabilization, with their effects interacting with the person’s psychological state and circumstances.
  9. Spiritual practices can produce a wide range of uncommon conscious states.
  10. Near-death experiences are associated with unusual experiences and, for some people, significant changes in attitudes toward daily life.
  11. Physical and psychological disturbances, including sensory loss, dementia, and neuropsychiatric conditions, can destabilize brain networks.
  12. Extreme physical or psychological exertion can push people beyond ordinary physiological and psychological boundaries. “Flow” and “the zone” are presented as examples of short-term uncommon states.

VIZR VISIONS – WHAT MAKES THEM HAPPEN?

The article discusses the production of phosphenes through pressure on the eyeball. Drawing on G. Bard Ermentrout, it describes pressure as inhibiting retinal signals and encouraging the brain’s cortex to “fill the void,” producing spontaneous activity and visual patterns.

The article emphasizes that entoptic images and phosphenes are not necessarily generated by the retina alone. It cites possible involvement of the occipital lobe, somatosensory cortex, temporal lobe, parahippocampal gyrus, limbic structures, hippocampus, and paleo-cortex, along with several neurotransmitter systems.

The hippocampus is described as an important source of geometrical shapes and spatial imagery. The article further presents the hypothesis that archaic or ancestral information may be recalled through altered states and ritual practices, potentially contributing to adaptation and evolution.

Psychedelic information, according to the source, is personally generated yet may be experienced as having species-level importance, including perceptions associated with animal, plant, genetic, Gaian, or deep species memory.

VIZR VISIONS – MEANINGFUL OR MEANINGLESS?

Some interpretations regard VIZR Visions as “epiphenomena”—simple byproducts of other processes with no special significance.

The author rejects this interpretation. Instead, VIZR Visions are presented as an intrinsic aspect of a fundamental First Language, connected to the biosemiotic concept of “organic codes” and the idea of Homeomorphism.

BIOSEMIOTICS & HOMEOMORPHISM

Biosemiotics

Biosemiotics approaches life as semiosis, based on SIGNS & CODES. It proposes that living systems depend not only on “copying,” associated with Natural Selection, but also on “coding,” described as Natural Conventions.

Homeomorphism

Homeomorphism is explained through homeo—same or similar—and morph—shape or form. The article attributes the concept to William James and proposes that because living organisms evolved within shared environmental conditions and elements, they developed interdependent forms of interaction and adaptive communication.

ENCODE & DECODE – REPEAT AS NECESSARY

For SIGNS and SIGNALS to convey consistent MEANING across living organisms, the relationship between signals and meanings must be managed by a CODE.

The article proposes that codes exist throughout Nature and allow it to function as a unified Complex Adaptive System without a centralized controller. Signals originating from one class of organisms can therefore convey intended meanings to another.

This is described as a form of “KNOWING WITHOUT THINKING”—a homeomorphic means of communication between bees and flowers and, more broadly, between living systems.

A FIRST LANGUAGE.

VIBRATION & RADIATION

First Language is ultimately described as a coded sharing of mechanical vibrations and electromagnetic radiations—sound and light.

VIZR VISIONS are presented as neurological expressions of the electromagnetic radiation experienced as “light.” They are SIGNALS managed by “ORGANIC CODES” embedded in the organism and are described as conveying life-enhancing MEANINGS at a pre-intellectual level of awareness.

VIZR VISIONS are therefore presented as native to deep internal consciousness and as an intrinsic feature of our NEURO REALITY.
